Overview:
Rupantar is implementing a project titled “Reducing pollution and improving the ecology of the Sundarbans mangrove forests and their zones of influence in Bangladesh” in the five coastal districts1 of Bangladesh, cofunded by BMZ and Helvetas Intercooperation gGmbH.
As part of the project, Rupantar plans to develop 170,000 biodegradable shopping bags (preferably made from natural fabrics like cotton or jute) with social and behaviour change communication (SBCC) messages to promote the reduction of plastic pollution. These bags will serve as an alternative to polyethylene bags and will be distributed to traders and small shop owners, encouraging them to switch to eco-friendly options.
Customers will receive these bags as part of a pilot initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste.
