Rupantar, meaning social transformation, is a non-government organization (NGO) that has been working in the field of development in Bangladesh since 1995. During the journey for the last 25 years, it proved an outstanding success with a strong footing in various developmental programs like democracy and governance, peace and tolerances, cultural diversity, climate change adaptation, human rights, safe migration, environment, and disaster management, child protection and women’s empowerment in all over Bangladesh and also in abroad like, China, India, Sweden, Thailand and Lao PDR with Rupantar method of development communication (community media and folk theatre). As a legal mandate, Rupantar is registered as a social welfare organization with the Department of Social Services, Government of Bangladesh (Registration No. 530/92, Dated, December 29, 1992) and as an NGO with the NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Office, Government of Bangladesh (Registration No. 1170/97, Dated, July 10, 1997).
Rupantar has been handling funds for more than 25 years and in course of time has gained a sufficient level of experience in handling project funds. The current budget provision for the 2019-2020 is more than 2.50 million US dollars. Rupantar’s projects and program are being supported by the Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh specially through entities like Ministry of Women & Children Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Disaster Management & Relief, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Department of Cooperative, etc.; International donor agencies like United Nations Centre for Countering Terrorism (UNCCT), United Nation Office of Countering Terrorism (UNOCT), The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), European Union (EU), International Labor Organization (ILO), International Organization of Migration (IOM), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), USAID, Department For International Development (DFID later turned into FCDO from mid-2020), Canadian High Commission, American Centre, GIZ, NOREC/FK Norway, Commonwealth of Learning (COL), British Council, Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF); Multi-national NGOs like- Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, Management System International (MSI), International City/County Management Association (ICMA), Start Fund Bangladesh (SFB), Democracy International (DI), Counterpart International, Plan International Bangladesh, Concern Worldwide, Water Aid Bangladesh, The Asia Foundation, AMARC Asia-pacific, ASCEND-Germany along with many. Rupantar as the secretariat of the Stop Violence Coalition is also playing the role of the Advisory Group of Bangladesh Peace Observatory (BPO) since the very initiation of their voyage while it has direct strategic partnership with various national and international universities and department of governments.
