Project Title: Establishing Child Sensitized Community in the Sundarban Region for Protection and Development of Children and Adolescents
Nature of the project: Community, local institutions and local government are more child sensitive in their actions, on the other hand, Children and adolescents exhibit their capacity to cope with disaster situation. Rupantar and Khulna Child Protection Cluster members are able to train organizations in Bangladesh in order of developing and adapting the system to local situations.

Impact:

  • Community, local institutions and local government in Dacope Upazilla are now more child sensitive in their actions and take necessary steps to protect the children during emergency situations as well as in normal conditions.
  • The Children and adolescents at CFS exhibit their capacity to cope with disaster situation and capacity to assist other children in emergency 
  • CPiE system is tested and integrated by the CP Custer and ready for dissemination and use as replica
  • Rupantar and Khulna CP Cluster members are able to train organizations in Bangladesh in order of developing and adapting the system to local situations. 

Challenges:

  • Shifting of community perception and mind set for consideration of every human being below the age of 18 to be treated as children
  • Natural high tide, water logging and river erosion delayed construction work.
  • Regular systematic process to internalize the issue of Child Rights, Child Protection & it links to individual rights under CR framework

Lesson Learnt:

  • Strengthened communication channels fostering shared understanding on the development stages and milestones of the child must be strengthened through the Empowerment of Adolescents programme.
  • Increased understanding on child development is also an integral step to promote appropriate and supportive parenting skills.
  • Children need support not only for their physical development, but also the psychological social, emotional and cognitive development.  Parents provide the most immediate and the most important environment where children can develop to their full capacities in these domains.
  • The local level Community Based Child Protection Committee can be of special support to the children for psycho-social development. Volunteerism developed on child protection among the adolescents.
