Project Title: Child Led Development Project
Nature of the project: Child protection and development are central to the mandate of Rupantar. It plans to develop an intervention that informs adolescents and adults on child development with a strong focus on adolescence from a rights perspective. Goal: Create Violence Free Society to protect child from incidence for Exploring their Potentiality

Impact:

The Child Forum, community, LG institutions and Govt. duty bearers are proactively engage to encourage child protection issues as mandate.

Challenges:                        

  • Shifting of community perception and mind set for consideration of every human being below the age of 18 to be treated as children
  • The use of physical and humiliating punishment, early marriage and child labor as a form of discipline is socially and culturally unaccepted by parents, caregivers and community members.
  • The opportunities are not enough to make available to enhance mental, social, psychological and cognitive development of children.  

Lesson Learnt:

  • Increased understanding on child development is also an integral step to promote appropriate and supportive parenting skills.
  • It is important to introduce discussion and learning on age appropriate child development and parenting programmes to change the practice of corporal punishment as well as the enactment of protective laws and policies.
  • Children need support not only for their physical development, but also the psychological social, emotional and cognitive development.  Parents provide the most immediate and the most important environment where children can develop to their full capacities in these domains.
