 Project description

Considering the learning and experiences of SVC, Rupantar build a partnership between UNDP and the Stop Violence Coalition to undertake a number of activities to strengthen the capacities of the SVC members to deal with prevention of violent extremism programming through better understanding violence and extremism based on evidence and analysis; enhance engagement with vulnerable communities and initiate programming for positive steps towards preventing extremism, recruitment including radicalization and the other related dynamics; and build advocacy tools to promote greater social cohesion for a more tolerant and inclusive society in Bangladesh.

The project covers all over the country specially Eight administrative divisions like Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rongpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh of Bangladesh.

Project Goal

  1. Understand the trends and attitude analysis of violent extremism in Bangladesh through conducting media review in the targeted vulnerable areas in Bangladesh, where the SVC members have a presence and outreach.
  2. Organize the two roundtable discussions in vulnerable districts with the representatives of state institutions in local and central level, security institutions, the local Islamic community, media, civil society and other stakeholders, with the aim to discuss the alternatives for countering and preventing violent extremism in communities in Bangladesh.
  3. Organize at least one nation-wide campaign engaging youth and other community members in promoting a tolerant and inclusive society in Bangladesh (i.e. observation of the Day of Non-violence & Campaign on PVE in the Community)

 

Project Objectives

The objective is to work for a Bangladesh in which political and communal violence never occur, in which citizens participate peacefully in their own governance, and in which non-violent conflict resolution along with conflict transformation takes place continuously in every part of the country to prevent and counter violent extremism.

Project Expected Results

  1. Strengthen the capacities of the SVC member organizations to deal with prevention of violent extremism programming through better understanding violence and extremism based on evidence and analysis
  2. Enhance engagement of SVC with vulnerable communities, and initiate programming for positive steps towards preventing extremism, recruitment including radicalization and the other related dynamics
  3. Build advocacy tools to promote greater social cohesion for a more tolerant and inclusive society in Bangladesh

This project conducted with the financial support of UNDP and the amount of Fund is 3605250 BDT.

 Project Working Area

We are working in eight administrative divisions like Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rongpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh of Bangladesh.

 Duration of the Project

The project duration is 21st September 2016 to 10th December 2016.

 Total Staffs of the Project

There are 8 nos. of data collector in eight specific areas and a documentation officer in central level.
